1. The Journey Begins When the Uniform Comes Off
Our uniform's journey begins when an employee takes it off at the end of the shift.
Instead of taking it home, the employee places the soiled garment in a designated soiled garment locker at the workplace. From there, it becomes part of the company's managed uniform service.
The uniform waits there until a Lechner Route Service Representative (RSR) arrives for the scheduled service. When he arrives, the RSR collects the soiled garments and loads them onto the service truck, where they begin the trip back to the Lechner laundry plant.
This managed service takes the responsibility of uniform laundry off employees' hands while helping businesses maintain a consistent, reliable uniform program.
2. The Dirty Uniform Arrives at the Lechner Laundry Plant
Our uniform has made it back to the Lechner laundry plant. Now, it's time to get to work.
Before it goes anywhere near a wash cycle, it needs to be properly handled and prepared for processing. And this step matters because not every uniform comes back from the workplace the same way. Depending on the industry, workwear can carry everything from everyday dirt and dust to grease, oil, food, chemicals, and other workplace contaminants.
Each Lechner uniform is equipped with a UHF chip that helps track the garment throughout the laundry process. As uniforms enter the plant, our ULTRA Tracking System can identify and automatically sort them based on factors such as garment type, color, and industry.
The goal isn't simply to wash a uniform. It's to properly clean and care for workwear so it can continue doing its job, shift after shift.
3. Into the Wash
Now our uniform is ready to wash! This is where industrial laundry is very different from doing a load of clothes at home.
Professional uniform laundries use commercial-scale equipment and specialized cleaning processes designed specifically for the demands of workwear. Wash formulas, temperatures, and cycles are carefully selected based on the garment, the fabric, and the types of soils it has encountered on the job.
That's especially important when it comes to safety garments. Features such as high-visibility striping and flame-resistant (FR) properties aren't simply decorative - they serve an important purpose on the job. Proper laundering helps maintain these features so the garment can continue to perform as intended.
Once the wash cycle is complete, the uniform moves directly into an industrial-grade dryer, where it is carefully dried and prepared for the next stage of the process.
What started the day covered in the dirt and grime of a hard day's work is now clean (and one step closer to heading back to the workplace).
4. Clean Doesn't Mean Finished
Our uniform is now clean. But it’s not quite ready to go back to work yet.
After laundering, our uniform is inspected for issues such as stains, damage, missing buttons, broken zippers, or other signs of wear.
This is an important part of a professional uniform rental service. A clean uniform isn't necessarily a workplace-ready uniform if it has a broken zipper, damaged closure, or another issue that could affect its appearance or function. If a garment needs attention, it can be repaired or replaced before it returns to circulation.
Once our uniform has passed inspection, it moves on to the finishing process. The garment passes through a high temperature steam tunnel, where heat and steam help release wrinkles and give it a clean, professional appearance.
It's the final touch that takes our uniform from simply clean to workplace ready.
5. From our Plant to the Delivery Route
Once our uniform has been cleaned, inspected, and finished, it's time for it to head back out. The garment is prepared for delivery and reunited with the customer's other uniforms!
This is another important difference between a uniform rental and laundry service and simply having employees wash their own workwear.
The service doesn't end when the washing machine stops. A managed uniform program coordinates the entire cycle - from collection to processing to delivery - so clean workwear is ready when employees need it.
6. Back to Work
On its scheduled service day, our uniform is loaded back onto the Lechner truck by the Route Service Representative (RSR) and driven back to its customer location. Once it arrives, the clean uniform is placed in its designated clean garment locker, ready to reunite with its wearer.
And just like that, our uniform has officially completed its journey.
It started the day clean and ready for work. After spending the day doing exactly what it was designed to do, it came back carrying the dirt and grime of a day's work. It was collected, transported, sorted, professionally laundered, inspected, finished, and returned to the workplace. Now, it's clean, professional, and ready for its next shift. And tomorrow? It starts all over again.
